Business Practices and Theory 2019

The Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) is a research doctorate, much like a PhD. There is also a PhD in Business Administration available, but the focus of this program is much more theoretical in nature. The PhD in Business Administration will prepare you for a teaching or research role. While a DBA also focuses on theory, it is designed to prepare the successful candidate for work in a managerial setting. Pursuit of the Doctorate in Business Administration follows completion of a bachelors in business and masters in business program. It may or may not require coursework, but a major thesis (70,000 to 100,000 words) is required along with a formal defense. One of the interesting aspects of this particular doctorate is the fact that many business schools now offer the program with emphasis on particular areas or study, such as technology management or the science of growth management. The curriculum for a doctorate in business administration will often focus on the practical applications that lay beyond the field of study. One program, for example, offers a DBA in Management with focus on organizational behavior, human resource management, strategic management and organizational theory. A person that has completed this level of study could turn to the business world and function as a consultant. Businesses that have experienced rapid growth or businesses that have become moribund with old and ingrown operational methods are prime candidates for professional consulting. The DBA, with an intimate understanding of both the behavioral and structural theories underlying business functions, can be of valuable service in dysfunctional corporate environments. .u7d7ad6a562350f057eb94f94e4087d28 { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .u7d7ad6a562350f057eb94f94e4087d28:active, .u7d7ad6a562350f057eb94f94e4087d28:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .u7d7ad6a562350f057eb94f94e4087d28 { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .u7d7ad6a562350f057eb94f94e4087d28 .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .u7d7ad6a562350f057eb94f94e4087d28 .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .u7d7ad6a562350f057eb94f94e4087d28:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ Making a Difference with Payroll AccountingGlobalization has added a new area of focus for many DBA programs. The growing integration of capital, trade and business ownership across borders has provided for some rich new academic orientations. Politics of necessity enter into the picture as entire labor markets and industries are shifted from one continent to another, profoundly affecting the economic balance of trade that nations have traditionally enjoyed. A doctorate in business administration today will include some study of cross-cultural relations, as a precursor to cross-border economic accomplishments. Beyond the cultural issues are international business and trade law, along with offshore labor practices that vary widely and are rapidly being integrated into American companies. India and China are emerging as world economic powers and with this sea change there are great opportunities for those who have a grasp of global economic functionality. There are distance learning programs for both of these degrees. University of Phoenix Online offers a Doctor of Business Administration as well as a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership. Pastoring and Parenting Essay - 937 Words

The problem with being both a pastor and a parent at the same time is finding and adhering to the distinction between shepherding the church members and being a father to one’s children. A distinction must be made between pastoring a church and parenting one’s children because of the nature of each responsibility which when combined with the other produces a difficult situation. While being a pastor requires a caring heart for one’s congregation, being a good parent requires a love for one’s children that is so deep that caring for anyone else pales in comparison. Problems arise when a pastor cares too much for his congregation or what they think of him and ignores his family in the process. One’s family should always come first not†¦show more content†¦In a Pastor’s home, these may be only the basics; expectations may be pilled on the pastor’s kid (PK) to such an alarming degree that many adults, let alone kids, could not handle the pressure. A PK may be so sheltered that they will have no friends aside from those that are chosen for them. They may not be allowed to go to a public or even Christian school and instead forced to be home-schooled in an effort to control who they come in contact with. This desire to have complete control stems from a fear that left to their own devices, a PK will bring â€Å"public shame to the congregation or scandal to the community† (Mickey 22). Usually, when one thinks of a â€Å"sheltered child† it is in a negative way as the earlier examples have shown. However, not all sheltering is bad and within a Pastor’s home it may be very necessary for the sake of the family’s relationship with each other. The necessity is shown in the following examples. The father may shelter the kids from certain members of the church when said members make unexpected visits to the home. The PK may also be sheltered from certain groups or clubs at churc h so that they are not made fun of for being the pastor’s son or daughter. Those who are outside of the pastor’s family may never find it possible to relate to the difficulties faced by the PK and for this reason, a protective barrier is often times needed. As it

In addition, the company extended its blackout dates in 2008, which made it more valuable in the eyes of its customers throughout the world. From an analysis of the company, it is worth noting that a strong loyalty program is important in retaining its customer and crating brand loyalty among the new customers in order to boost its revenues in the future. Weakness A focus on domestic market is actually a problem at the company. For instance, the company’s presence in the United States accounts for more than 80% of the company’s entire hotels8. In fact, poor diversification of presence seems to be a problem because it makes it vulnerable to any econom ic crisis that may hit the American market. Secondly, the company has been quite late and slow in its international expansion. In fact, the company started late in expanding into other markets, first concentrating on its American presence and giving its rivals a smooth time for operating and investing in foreign markets9. Due to its lateness, the company is finding its difficult to penetrate foreign markets, especially where its rivals have consolidated and invested widely prior to its entry.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Due to its lateness in entering these new markets, the company is finding it hard to establish itself due to increasing cost of real estates, especially because these areas are hot spots f or investment due to the good economic progress demonstrated by these countries. Single ownership is another weakness affecting Hilton Hotels. As a privately owned corporation, the company is susceptible to any problem associated with poor decision-making and corporate handling. Opportunities The dynamism of market growth in emerging economies such as India, China, Brazil, Russia and South Africa provides the company with an opportunity to expand its foreign presence and take the advantage of low presence of foreign companies in these areas. Secondly, the presence of Luxury brands provides Hilton Hotels with an opportunity of redefining its brand and expanding its portfolio. Technological dynamism and revolution provides Hilton Hotel with an opportunity to take the advantage by developing unique global brands to compete with its rivals in the industry. Threats The presence of individual consumer price has increased the demand for unique lodging experience, which is in turn driving t owards the establishment of independent hotels. This is common in the United States, which presents a major threat to Hilton that operates as a chain of hotels. Secondly, the company is threatened by a major downturn in business travel, especially after the world economic crisis of 2007-2010 and its aftermath. Moreover, the invention of e-commerce and internet technology has greatly reduced the need for business travelling, which in turn affects hotel companies. SWOT analysis of Marriot International Strengths Marriot International Inc is a global leader in hotel and travel industry, taking more than 5% value share as at 2010. It is the largest company with a wide geographical presence in the world. Unlike Hilton Hotels, Marriot has an unhampered hotel ownership, owning less then 1% of its portfolio. This means that it has the capacity to avoid price and market fluctuations as well as major and minor economic crisis in a given region.Advertising We will write a custom report sa mple on Comparative Analysis of Hilton Hotel and Marriot International Hotels specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Like Hilton, the company has a focused pipeline development, where it is pursuing a growth strategy to consolidate its presence in the emerging world markets and to capitalize on the dynamically booming hotel, travel and tourism industries. It is also worth noting that the company has taken the advantage of the internet technology, with a strong and effective website that guarantees a good online trading, advertisement and communication with its customers. Weaknesses Like Hilton Hotels, Marriot International Inc is likely to suffer an economic blow due to its heavy presence on the American market. In fact, it has a strong focus on domestic market. Secondly, the company’s focus on luxury brands leaves it vulnerable to any potential global economic crisis. In addition, it is evident that the company’s focus on Cou rtyard Brand is a major weakness because the brand is losing its core customers, with experts arguing that business revitalization is not enough to lure the company’s customers back because there is already a fierce competition in the industry. it is also worth noting that the company lacks a low-cost lifestyle brand, instead, it focuses on luxury brands. This leaves the company les popular among the low and middle-income earners and the most common and largest group of customers. Opportunities The presence of emerging markets in Asia, South America and Africa means that companies like Marriot are set to use their massive resources to enter these markets and lock out smaller companies. Secondly, technological advancement places companies with massive resources at a better position to use new technologies as a competitive advantage over upcoming corporations with less resources. Threats Consumer confidence is a general threat to companies like Marriott due to its impact on the income levels of the potential customers. In addition, credit crunch remains a threat to multinational companies like Marriot. Comparative PEST analysis Political: The two companies share a common political environment, especially because they are located in the United States. However, the wider geographical presence of Marriot over Hilton means that it has diversified its risks associated with localized political threats. Economic: The two companies have invested heavily in their international presence, thus diversifying their ability to cope with economic hurdles in various nations10. However, Marriot’s wider presence means that it beats Hilton on this ground.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Social factors: social aspects of world population are likely to affect the companies both positively and negatively11. Population growth in foreign markets is likely to favor Marriot due to its heavy presence in foreign markets. Technological: Internet technology seems to favor Marriot because of its heavy presence on the internet and a focus on e-commerce. Environmental: Both companies experience similar economic effects in their business due to similarity in location and operation. Legal factors: in the United States and Europe, the two companies share a common legal environment. However, in some foreign markets, they differ sue to their differences in locations. Conclusion From the comparative analysis, it is evident that the two companies have a better future in terms of their performance. However, Marriot seems to have a number of advantages over Hilton, which means its future is much better then than of Hilton. The joy luck club essay

The joy luck club essay The Joy Luck Club Essay The Generation Gap in The Joy Luck Club "Hey, Ben, are you Japanese or Chinese?" I asked. His reply, as it seems to be for a lot of minority groups, was, "Neither, I'm Chinese-American." So, besides his American accent and a hyphenated ending on his answer to the SAT questionnaire about his ethnic background, what's the difference? In Amy Tan's captivating novel, The Joy Luck Club, I found out the answer to that question. Through the relationships and experiences of four Chinese mothers and four Chinese-American daughters, I was able to see a massive difference between their corresponding lifestyles. The generation gap of the women born during the first quarter of the century in China, and their daughters born in the American atmosphere of California, is a quality that doesn't exactly take a scientist to see. From the beginning of the novel, we hear Suyuan Woo tell the story of "The Joy Luck Club," a group started by some Chinese women during World War II, wher e "we feasted, we laughed, we played games, lost and won, we told the best stories. The Joy Luck Club (film)And each week, we could hope to be lucky. That hope was our only joy." (p. 12) Really, this was their only joy. The mothers grew up during perilous times in China. They all were taught "to desire nothing, to swallow other people's misery, to eat [their] own bitterness." (p. 241) Though not many of them grew up terribly poor, they all had a certain respect for their elders, and for life itself. These Chinese mothers were all taught to be honorable, to the point of sacrificing their own lives to keep any family members' promise. Instead of their daughters, who "can promise to come to dinner, but if she...

Two topices you can choice (The finance of public transportation or Essay

Two topices you can choice (The finance of public transportation or The implementation of recycling programs) about ubran studies - Essay Example What the core problem is that a society in which a recycling program is considered ineffective; actually lacks experience, for these programs provide better and better results with proper development with time. What happens with a common household ‘dustbin’ or a ‘garbage-can’, as most people would refer it to, is that after being filled to its brim it starts to spill the waste out, evidently due to the limited space it has for the purpose of storing garbage. But space doesn’t matter nowadays, does it? One can clearly incinerate the garbage and use the dustbin for collecting more garbage and then incinerate that too, but would the ‘effects’ of that burning garbage be healthy for the environment? Of course most people don’t tend to care about it and consider using their resources to better purposes than caring about the environment, but would the ‘cost’ of constantly burning that garbage, the ‘energy’ used in clearing the bin and the transportation of that garbage be so minor to be easily sacrificed? Our planet is the metaphorical ‘dust bin’ and clearly we (humans) have polluted it for long, but it is only now that emphasis is being laid on the preservation of our resources and our environment; reflecting that our environmental condition has reached a critical point. The latest effort to preserve what’s left of our once rich environment and to clean what we have messed up, includes recycling; the reprocessing of materials to save fresh raw materials, energy and save the environment from numerous pollutants. Recycling programs are methods or ways we adopt which consequently help us recycle. To address the issue of their implementation in urban areas we must first consider the importance and the need of recycling programs in urban areas. Developed cities tend to be more artificial with respect to the natural environment and the more different they are the more harm they cause. Take a big metropolitan

Economic--Government Regulation Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Economic--Government Regulation - Research Paper Example Regulation of a country’s affairs by the government is not a contemporary issue as it is considered an event that began several decades ago as most governments engaged in attempts to advance their interest. In other words, regulations have been used to protect key interests of the civilians and those of the government of the day. Government regulations touch on a number of issues key among them being political, economic and social. As time passes by regulations, tend to develop at numerous government levels as commissions gain greater powers with respect to operation of regulations. In other words, the government departments and agencies are becoming heavily involved in design and final implementation of the regulations. It is noteworthy that government agencies constituted by either the executive or the legislative branches are highly responsible for actual implementation of various regulations issued by the government department in charge. For instance, in the United States, the Food and Drug Association (FDA) and Environment Protection Agency (EPA) are responsible promoting laws that ensure safe food and drug products are in the market while as well as laws that cut down on pollution effect in the country respectively. Government agencies have become powerful institutions over the recent past owing to the delegate roles they have been extended to by the government. For instance, the legislative arm of the government may formulate or enact laws and establish guiding principles and the agencies are left to make follow-ups and final implementation. The operations of these agencies are highly influenced by their independence and as such, there are certain agencies that free from the control of the executive and other department of the government. The government departments as well as agencies do not often work in isolation considering the fact that members from the private sector are normally included in the board. The private sector

Functions of Management Essay Example for Free

Functions of Management Essay United Health group is a major insurance company that provides medical and mental health coverage to its consumers. The organization manages Medicaid and Medicare accounts as well as commercial accounts from employers. Providing healthcare insurance is a competitive job, therefore, the management of the organization has to use the four functions of management to remain in the competition. The four function of management are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. In this paper, we will discuss the four functions of management and how it relates to the organization. The four functions of management is planning, organizing, leading and, controlling. Planning is for the goals of the organization, planning sets the stage for action and major achievements. Organizing is assembling and coordinating human, financial resources needed to achieve the goals. This could be organizing activities such as grouping jobs into work units, marshaling and allocating resources and creating conditions so that people and things work together to achieve maximum success. Leading is stimulating people to be high performers. Leading can take place in departments, teams as well as divisions. By encouraging high performers, you are increasing their inner moral, making them feel and believe they can complete their goals rather it is individual goals that coincide with the organization’s goals. Another management function is controlling, managers make sure the organization’s resources are being used as planned and that the organization is meeting its goals for quality and safety. The four functions of management have in common is to achieve the goals for the organization. The four functions all work together. There are three different levels in management; top level managers, middle level managers and, front line managers. Top level managers are typically the CEO, COO or CIO. Middle level managers are under the top level managers and, frontline managers are considered operational managers. The top level manager determines and identifies the goals that are needed for the entire organization. Once the CEO has identified the goals and what steps that are  needed to achieve the goal, the information is conveyed to middle management. Middle management takes those goals and determines what’s needed to achieve the goals such as organizing workloads, teams or units. Then convey to frontline managers. Front line management does most of the leading, their more hands on with employees or teams. Front line managers assist with establishing individual goals that will benefit the company and coincide with the company’s goals. Front line managers also use controlling by making sure the e mployees utilize company resources if needed. Also by making sure the company goals are being met. The organization uses all four of the management functions. There have been many cases of increased health issues within call center environments such as; obesity, high blood pressure, depression and anxiety issues. The organization created incentives to make the idea more appealing to the employees. The organization has decided to inspire and motivate their employees to take better care of their health. By creating the goals of decreasing the health issues within the office setting the organization set their stage for action so they could achieve these goals. Now that the goal has been established the organization needs to assemble humans, physical information to coordinate ways to achieve the goals. The organization started providing bonus incentives such has decrease in insurance if you’re passed a bio metric screening. The organization also begin to partner with Weight Watchers providing employee discounts, LA Fitness (discounted membership), provide stress management classes along, with providing ways to exercise in the office. There are different teams within the company with a goal of losing the most weight. The teams encourage one another and provide support during their weight loss journey. All teams support and encourage with the expectations of dropping the weight and defeating the other team. The teams have weekly check-ins where the members have to weigh in, report their meal plans. By utilizing the four functions of management, the organization has been able to lower their premiums for their employees, and increase better health within the organization. The organization identified the issue of health  concerns within the office setting, set the goals of prevention and reduction. With those plans of prevention and reduction the organization was able to organize employees and coordinate ways to achieve the goals. The staff coordinated and provided information to their employees to educate and prevent. The leaders promoted the resources and encouraged those to be active and participate in all the resources the organization has to offer. Utilization of 14c Phenylalanine Derived from Arylphorin or Free Amino

UTILIZATION OF {14C} PHENYLALANINE DERIVED FROM ARYLPHORIN OR FREE AMINO ACID IN MANDUCA SEXTA PHARATE ADULTS GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE PAPER How did someone figure out that carbon dioxide in the bloodstream is exchanged for oxygen in the lungs of mammals? And how do we know that hormones are produced by, for example, the pituitary gland and, moreover, that these hormones signal the body to grow. These and many other questions have been answered by means of the scientific method. Scientists form hypotheses, experiment, collect data, and draw conclusions from this data that is then applied to answering questions about that certain topic. Some research seems to be obselete and/or practically useless, only to come into the picture years or decades later and shift the field of science. Although at times it is difficult to say what the repercussions of a particular study will be, it is not uncommon for that very study to play a key role in a major scientific breakthrough later. Therefore, it is important to keep in mind that although a particular study may not seem to be important at the time, later it could be the most signifi cant study in the field. This study performed by Min Wu and Dr. Marc E. Tischler, at first glance may appear to have a narrow focus, but upon furthur consideration, one realizes that its findings have applications to any number of related topics. In this experiment, Wu and Tischler tracked what paths a specific protein, arylophorin, and followed its production and distribution throughout the body of Manduca sexta pharate adults. Their first goal was to determine the most efficient method for producing radioactively labeled arylophorin, called 14C-Arylphorin. Their second goal, and purpose of the experime... ...test) difficulty of the experiment--finding the right conditions from which the highest (or most acceptable) specific activity could be achieved. After much experimentation it was determined that incubating one-half fat body in 1 ml of medium (0.15 mM of labeled phenylalanine and amino acids at 25% normal level in Grace's medium) for 15-24 hours, chasing labeled phenylalanine after one hour with unlabeled phenylalanine, yielded most desirable results. Temperature was shown to have little or no affect on the results, so room temperature was used in further experimentation and final implementation in achieving high specific activity (more convenient). Love’s Pain Is Its Own Redemption Essay

â€Å"What is love?† According to Joseph Rey F. Celestino, M.A, this is a question that excites and stirs a thousand fold of other questions in our minds. That’s a verbatim of what he had said in an article he made, called Love’s Pain is It’s Own Redemption. It is an article that opened my eyes to the reality of love. It’s an article that never seizes to amaze me, to amuse me, to make me question my beliefs, and change my views and opinions (in a good way), no matter how many times I read it. It continues to serve as an instrument of wonder, challenging me to go out, explore, and experience the magic, the marvel, and the astounding beauty of love. It’s an article about the enticing world something that we all know of, but only get a glimpse of its true form. I have never viewed love in a way that’s even just a tiny bit close to the way I see it now. I gained a deeper understanding of how love moves and works, but I know that I still have a long way to go before I figure out what love really is, or who knows? Maybe I’ll never find the right words to define what it is. Maybe I’ll never know what love means. The possibilities are endless. But this article is my guide, so that I won’t get lost, as I start my quest on finding clues that might lead me to the answers I’ve been looking for, to questions I never thought I would ever ask, about things I never thought I‘d be curious about. According to the author, â€Å"What is love?† is a question that knows no barriers, knows no bounds, and knows no age and generation. He also made a statement which I find very agreeable. He said that â€Å"love is the most celebrated theme of human existence (†¦)† I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. No matter who you are, where you’re from, how old you are, or what gender you are, you absolutely, positively have something to say about something is related to love, or when love itself is being talked about. We each have our own views and opinions regarding love. These may be brought about by mere experiences, or our beliefs, or other factors that may affect or form our ideas and judgments. He further stated that the untangled web of mystery of love is what binds us all. He said that â€Å"As we are drawn to the nearness of its answer, the more that we find ourselves confused and puzzled.† Pertaining to the question being discussed. He explained how love or the question of what it is, is in fact too close to being a paradoxical phenomena. Maybe that’s why people try so hard to find a definition for love. Maybe that’s why people try to put love in words. Because people do not want things and questions left unanswered and undefined. Being curious is in our nature. We hunger and thirst for answers to things we do not even fully understand. We find it hard to â€Å"let things be†. Because we exist questioningly. And we do not easily let things go. That’s why, each of us, whether we say it or not, has our own definition of love. We on our own try to define it, or share our ideas about it to find common things with others’ ideas, and formulate a concrete explanation or definition of love. For what reasons, there may be a lot. But the point is, the mere presence of love in a conversation, or discussion, or anything, really, we automatically get excited and pay attention, because we want to know what it is. The author, through the article, further explained thing about love that might deepen, or cut our curiosity about it. He explained that the on-going controversy about the definition of love is not new to the world. He said that that controversy went even way, way back before some of us existed. He said that Philosophy has been trying to reckon prominent questions, such as â€Å"Is love and unanswerable question, or an unquestionable answer?†, and â€Å"Why is there love, rather than no love at all?†. As I said earlier, according to the author, Philosophy has been trying to reckon these questions for more than two and a half millennia of its existence. This means that Philosophy has been trying to approach these problems for over 2,000 years. He further stated that Socrates and Plato, on the one hand, and the poetic movement led by Homer, on the other hand, opened their respective conversation tables on the subjects of love and intimacy in that ancient far away. He also said that scholars of the present day, still linger on the ideas left by these past masters. Countless books have already been published, (and still publishing), of millions of films have already been produced, just to give us an inch of hope or a glimpse of the definition, or the answers to the questions about love. It’s taking so long, for people to find love’s meaning. And yet, we never get tired. With each experience we gain, we get bits and pieces of ideas of how we can define love. But still, despite all efforts given by our ancestors, and us, people in the present, we only see a blur, of loves true form. Maybe it’s about time we stop trying to define love, and just let it be. Let love be love. Maybe, we should start experiencing it, and enjoying it, instead of stressing ourselves trying to find meaning to something this mysterious, this big, this amazing. Yes, maybe we should do that. But there’s something about trying to define love, that gives us this sense of satisfaction, because that more we try to find meaning for it, the more we get to experience it. Our hearts burst with so much happiness when we know that we are in the presence of love. Mr. Celestino, got into a deeper explanation of tons more interesting topics, like, the myths created by society, about love, about Aristophanes’ narrative that concerns human relationship, and a lot more, Part of this â€Å"a lot more† topics included on of my favorite arguments ever. Love at first sight. I have never been a believer of love at first sight. This may sound offensive to those who believe, but, I think the idea is pretty unrealistic. Yes, it’s a really good idea. I mean, wouldn’t it be nice to see someone and automatically know that that person is â€Å"the one†? Isn’t that what happens in most romantic movies? Two people just happens to be in the same place,, at the same time, and look at each other at the same moment. They look into each other’s eyes, and poof! They’re in love. It would be nice. I really would. But as I said earlier, that’s what happens in most movies. That’s what happens in most r omantic books or novels, even. These are made to tickle our systems and trick us into believing that these things could actually happen in to us real life. Truthfully speaking, nothing that perfectly constructed, and well-made could happen in real life. We exist in reality. We don’t live in some 2-hour-or-so film that is so beautifully made, it may be close to perfection. That’s not how life works. That’s not reality is all about. On the contrary, in reality, nothing happens the way we imagine it would, let alone like what would happen in films or books. That’s exactly why people make films and movies. They make things that they imagine come to life. They make their imaginations seem real, by putting them into films or books. This is where people get the concept of love at first sight. And upon reading through the article, I just found more proof to what I believe in. Mr Celestino said that there is no such thing as love at first sight. In verbatim, he said â€Å"Love does not bite on a first sight.† He explained that â€Å"The presence of the other that is brought to one’s sight appears as an assembly of physical qualities and in turn, the one beholding such sight finds himself or herself being caught in a feeling that is simply stated as attraction.† This statement sums up my thoughts, and puts them into words. As I most commonly say it, â€Å"Love takes time. Baka infatuation lang yan.† He further explained that the attraction brought about or formed by meeting or seeing someone particularly attractive, may breathe two things. Infatuation and affection. He said that infatuation is a shadow of love’s true form. He said that infatuation is confined as mere liking of corporeal qualities that are usually pleasing aesthetically to one’s sight for a short-lived time. Affection, on the other hand is love in its potential state. Affection is something that may grow to be love. Love is neither infatuation, nor is it affection. Although affection may grow to be love, it is not love. At least, not yet. These two are commonly mistaken to be love. But as I always say, â€Å"love takes time.† It doesn’t happen in a blink of an eye. He explained other topics, like the famous clichà ©s, â€Å"Love is blind†, â€Å"First love never dies†, what love is in the Philippines, and another one of my favorite topics, rejection. According to the article, â€Å"Rejection is painful but it is liberating in the sense that the self that is being refused is set free to reclaim himself/herself in order to heal the wounded soul and to love again when the right time comes.† Yes, love is liberating, it may take some time to make all the pain go away, because nothing hurts more than the refusal of one to receive the self that is being offered. It traps the soul of the lover into a world of agony and pain, and sometimes, the lover finds no other meaning in life, since he and his love had been rejected. This is why rejection is crucial in a lover’s life. Simply because the pain inflicted to that person, may cost him his very life. The author also explained what pain is, and what it’s all about, selfishness, and divorce and separation, how God’s love for humanity, and Christ’s crucifixion is the concretion of love in an ultimate sense. And he ended this beautiful article with a just conclusion, he said, â€Å"To love, therefore, is to face even what is uncalled for and to manifest unselfish goodwill towards the other. It could be painful in the process but love will find a way to surpass it. That is why there is resurrection in every instance of death.† I was left with no words, as I reached the last page of the article. It was beautiful, breathtaking, and heart stopping. It spoke from a view that is totally different from others. And it may still not contain answers to my question, but it made me hunger for more, thirst for answers, and crave for the experience of love in it’s fullest. For me, to earn a symbiotic and intact relationship, there are a lot of values needed. Love, as there core, with others such as trust, understanding, disciple, respect, etc. In spite of all these, I think a symbiotic relationships would not exist without respect. Because, well, love and respect would not be right without one another. If you love someone, you are going to respect him/her. And the everything else will follow. Respect comes with trust, and understanding. If you respect a person, you will trust him, that he/she’s doing things for the better. You would come to a deeper understanding because you respect each other, and each other’s opinions. You will be discipline, because you respect your loved one, and if you respect them, you won’t do anything that would bring them harm. All, in all, I think respect is an essential in a mutual loving relationship. After reading the article, honestly, I was left with no words. I was too breathless, too astonished, too bewildered to even speak. I had to process my thoughts, and get the thoughts of the author in synced with my own. I had to clear my head and catch my breath. I’m not saying that the article gave me too much to handle. All I’m trying to say is that the article is something different from all others that I have read. And now that it’s been a while since I last read the article, I can finally confide with my thoughts and put them into words. After reading this article, I have learned so much, and I can easily say that I have more knowledge about love than I could ever imagine. I never thought I’d see myself writing this essay about love, (which isn’t really my specialty), yet here I am, close to my fourth page. I never knew I had so much to say about love until now. I never knew the impact and effect that article had on me. And all my thoughts, put into a statement after reading Love’s Pain is Its Own Redemption is found in the very first sentence of this entire essay. It seems to me like I just went back to where I started, and let me state (or ask) it again. â€Å"What is love?† I learned that no matter how hard we try to define love, it’s just too big of a paradox to start with. It’s too broad of an idea to put in just a few words in the dictionary. It’s too extraordinary to try and figure out. It’s to magical, to be given any scientific explanation. So I want to end my essay the way I started it. After reading the article written by Joseph Rey Celestino, M.A., I’m left with only one question (and a gazillion more underneath it). What is love?

Our writers will create an original "Why Gun Violence is Getting Worse" essay for you Create order This is the horrifying statistics of this country and yet, there is no major changes made. Although many people feel like guns area big part of protection, its only causing more and more madness by the day and getting it under control will save many lives. If there is new gun laws passed, that gives the people of this country insurance that innocent people wont continuously lose their life. Growing up and going to public elementary/schools, I am grateful nothing of such tragedy like school shootings has ever happened when I was there, but I cant help and think that there is innocent children losing their lives at such a young age from gun violence at a place where your expected to feel safe. This year one of the biggest school shooting was in Florida on Wednesday, February 14. A student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School named Nicolas Cruz, came to school where he opened fire killing 14 student and 3 teachers. The gun, a Smith Wesson MP 15 .223, was purchased at Sunrise Tactical Supply, according to the Associated Press.Federal law allows people 18 and older to legally purchase long guns, including this kind of assault weapon. With no criminal record, Cruz cleared an instant background check via the FBI criminal database (Jansen). He was not even asked questions because he passed a simple background check, this and many other incidence should have brought awareness to congress that you should only have to be 18 and have a clear background in order to go out and purchase such a dangerous weapon. There should be more than just background checks in order to purchase a gun, for example mental health is important and having mental illness can be dangerous to have and dangerous towards other people if you dont receive the help that you need. The reality is that most people with personality disorders do not seek treatment and are not known to mental health providers(Mental illness and gun laws: What you may not know about the complexities.) People even fail to acknowledge their mental illnesses because of the society we live in, and I honestly dont blame them either because most people believe that they will get bullied and made fun of by others, but by getting the help they need it might not reach a point where they might want to harm themselves or others. Its important to note that those with diagnosed serious mental illness, who are determined by a psychiatrist to be a serious risk of harm to themselves or others, already get admitted to acute or long-term inpatient care and are kept there until they are deemed not dangerous (Mental illness and gun laws: What you may not know about the complexities.) Can it be that hard for congress to make a law to ban guns that would actually help benefit people? I strongly believe that adding this simple law would save hundreds of people from hurting themselves or hurting others. Most gun and shooting accidents involve children who find unsecured, loaded guns around the house or in the family car. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) policy statement says, The absence of guns from childrens homes and communities is the most reliable and effective measure to prevent firearm-related injuries in children and adolescents. However, many families have firearms at home and gun ownership has not decreased in recent years( Iannelli.) Parents are getting these firearms for protection but in result loosing their own children because they are not properly putting them away and keeping them out of childrens reach. In the span of two years almost 1,330 children have died from accidently shooting themselves and other children. A lot who have young children are not only not putting them far enough from children and they are most likely keeping their guns loaded with the bullets in the magazine. There has not been anything dramatically done to change the law of guns and there has barely nothing been done to control the issue. There is many other countries who have their gun controls under control or banned and that seems to be working for them, they dont have the same issues as America with all these extreme mass shootings. For example Canada does not ban guns but they do have strict laws for them such as: gun owners can not carry outside of their homes unless its part of their job, all guns must be kept locked away and they cannot be loaded, also they require safety training for owners. Ive lived in Minnesota for majority of my life, I have not witnessed many people die until I was about 15, and my brothers best friend was shot and murdered in burnsville MN. I remember him going through the worst depression I could emagine. It hurt him to know that his best friend life was taken from him so brutally and it made him more angry as years passed by. It was just something he couldnt get through and he didnt want to talk to anyone about. It continue to worry me me to see him not want to talk to anyone and distance himself from everything he loved, and I finally got the courage to ask him why he was still mad instead of being sad? He replied to me because he was shot and killed He then continued to explain to me that if it was natural cause that killed him he would not have the madness in his heart. As time went on we spent a lot of time together and I got him to go back and do the things he loved, and he started to enjoy life again because he noticed living that way was n ot healthy. About 2 years passed and on January 24, 2016 one of my friends lost their brother also due to gun violence. This one hurt very much, not just to see my friend and her family feel whats they were feeling but also the fact that I also knew him. He was a kind, sweet, caring person and only 19 when he was shot and murdered. His life was not worth what he died over and I knew that this feeling of losing a loved one was only going to get worse for her and her family due to the fact that not only did he die, but someone took his life with a gun. A lot of these people who go and shoot people only think in that moment and that person but they fail to understand that people will have a hard time continuing with their lives because that person whose life they took has people that care and love them. I also remember going to his funeral and my friend asking me to go into the room her brother was being washed in. When we went in, she automatically broke down, and Ive never been in such shock my l ife. He laid over us with five bullets in this chest and one in his head. His blood no longer running in his body and his body looking so dull. I broke down and just couldnt understand how someone could be so cruel and be so inhumane to do such thing. I watched his mother kiss him on his forehead and say goodbye as tears went down her face.It broke my heart to see her say goodbye to her son that only got to live 19 years of life. We then buried him and everyone that came soon started to get in their cars and leave because it was so cold. I sat at his grave with my friend and just watched her. She told me that she was so angry at the other man who took her brothers life with a gun. I remember talking about this with my brother and automatically that conversation came to my mind. I then started to notice that them being shot and murdered was making it harder to move on for her as well. I knew that this was going to be a tough time for her so I made sure to around as much as I could be so that she doesnt exclude herself from people and things she also loves doing. That same year in November 26th, I remember getting a call and being told that my brother was shot. I didnt know how it feel, I didnt know if he was dead or alive, I just remember my blood pressure rising and my body become completely frozen. I was at my cousins house and they wondered what was wrong and kept tapping me, i just started to cry and think the worst, after a few minutes of sitting there and breaking down my phone rang and it was his girlfriend to tell me that she was at the hospital and that he was shot in this rist and he was going to be fine. I was relieved that he was alive but still crying because if the fact that he was hurt, I ended up going to the hospital and seeing him sit on the bed asleep with a huge cast and just hug him and restful te was alive. Once he was awake he told me that he was outside of a restaurant in Minneapolis and there was a group of men in a car and let shots fired in front of the restaurant. He told me he was standing outside with his friend and as soon as he realized what was happening told me ran behind a car and before he got there hiding his head with his and and thats when he got shot. I was so happy he was alive and although the doctor told him the bones in his wrist completely shattered and that they would have to put a metal piece to hold his hand straight up. The doctor also let him know that he would never be able to move his wrist up and down again. I knew that was frustrating for him. He didnt deserve what happened to him and it made me angry to know that someone shot him and to know that him and many other innocent people standing outside that restaurant could have died that day. I noticed that day the damage that guns were doing to people and the amount of other people only have to deal with being shot or their loved ones of theirs either being shot and hurt, or being shot and murdered. Not long after that many boys from the city im from who are somali were shot and murdered. Its like it was getting worse by the months and I think i was realizing more because I was getting older. I went to about another funeral in December,2016 from this boy who didnt know but went to the same islamic school when we were younger. Being at his funeral only made me remember the last time i was there for the same case. It made me sad to see mothers and families cry once again. It made me more sad to know that his cause of death was because of a gun. After a while things started to calm down and on June,11 2017 I remember being at work on break and getting another call from my other brother and him telling me that he was shot in the leg the night before and quickly saying that he would be fine and that the doctores got the bullet out. I didnt want to cry because I was just so confused, I just wanted to leave and go to the hospital and be there with him. So thats exactly what did, without telling anyone I just left. I called my sister and told her the exact thing he told me. Me and my whole family met at the hospital and by that time he has a cast and he was just happy to see us. He was shot in an apartment complex by a guy looking for another man and mistaken him for my brother. It has only gotten worse in minneapolis with gun violence, I have been to 3 funerals this year alone of 3 young men, the oldest being 25 being shot and killed. Every Time I was there I would remember seeing the others who I came for. About a week ago a student from Saint Paul College who was out with his cousins and friends were playing with guns and his cousin accidentally shot him in the face. He was fighting for his life and was brain dead. He ended up just dying December 11, 2018. Ive never met or seen him, but my sister told me she had class with him and telling me how much of sweet and funny boy he was. Im not sure how old he was but he was surely not over the age of 22. Gun violence is only getting worse, and writing this paper only made me realize that some
